IN THIS ISSUE - March Is National Reading Month
Did you know that, according to the Journal of the American Medical Association, 46% of American adults cannot understand the label on their prescription
medicine? Or that, according to the Arizona Republic, when the state of Arizona projects how many prison beds it will need, it factors in the number of kids who read well in fourth grade? Or that, as reported by Harvard Medical School, 15% of the population has specific reading disorders? These staggering statistics remind us all that reading is fundamental. March is Reading Month so celebrate by listening or reading a “whale of a tale” to a young child. After all – as they say… if you can read, you will succeed!

Getting Your Community Leaders Involved
Do you want to be the type of world-class school that everyone is talking about? Why not take something big, and mix it with something fundamental to learning? |
At the Institute, we encourage public involvement in the promotion of charter public schools. National Reading Month offers a great opportunity to engage local, public officials in your school. Contact your city mayor, police chief, or senator passing through town and set up a time for them to read to your students. You will be amazed at how it piques the learning interest of your students and sets your school apart from others by showcasing innovation and creative leadership.
